BT Redcare Closure: What Businesses Need to Know Ahead of December 2025
BT Redcare has announced that it will be closing all operations on 15 December 2025, bringing an end to its long-standing alarm signalling services used across the UK. This change has significant implications for tens of thousands of businesses that rely on Redcare for the remote monitoring of their intruder alarms, fire detection systems, and sprinkler systems.
At A-One Insurance Group, we’re helping clients understand what this means for their risk management and insurance cover and what action needs to be taken now to stay protected.
Why Is BT Redcare Closing?
This closure is part of BT’s wider technology shift away from copper phone lines and legacy infrastructure. While many older systems were already being phased out, BT has now confirmed that its next-generation IP and 4G signalling products will also cease.
According to the British Security Industry Association (BSIA), the withdrawal affects:
- 90,000 legacy Redcare units needing replacement before the deadline
- 30,000 IP and 4G signalling connections that must migrate to alternative providers
This affects remote signalling across intruder alarms, fire alarms, and sprinkler systems.
What This Means for Your Business
1. Intruder Alarm Signalling Must Be Replaced
If your insurance policy relies on the presence of an intruder alarm with remote signalling, you must ensure the signalling remains active and compliant.
We recommend:
- Confirming whether your system uses a BT Redcare unit
- Speaking with your NSI or SSAIB-accredited alarm installer
- Replacing the Redcare device with an equivalent system, such as CSL Dualcom GradeShift Pro 2, which meets the required BS EN 50136-1 (DP3) standard
Using an equivalent system usually means insurers do not need additional notification but if you’re unsure, our team can guide you.
2. Fire Alarm Systems Require EN54-Compliant Signalling
Fire alarms may connect to an Alarm Receiving Centre via:
- A dedicated fire signalling device, or
- The intruder alarm signalling route
However, fire systems must meet strict standards under EN54 and BS 5839-1, including line monitoring and backup power. Not all intruder alarm signalling devices meet these requirements.
We recommend upgrading to an EN54-certified remote signalling unit, such as CSL’s GradeShift Pro 2 Fire, or an equivalent approved system.
3. Sprinkler Systems Must Maintain Reliable Monitoring
For properties with sprinklers or other fire suppression systems, reliable remote signalling is absolutely essential. When activated, sprinklers control the fire until the Fire & Rescue Service arrives—but only if the activation is reported quickly.
If your sprinkler system currently signals via BT Redcare, whether directly or through the fire alarm, this will need to change before the December 2025 deadline.
What You Should Do Now
With thousands of systems needing upgrade across the UK, demand for installers is already increasing. Early planning is critical.
We recommend:
- Checking now whether your site uses any BT Redcare equipment
- Contacting your alarm installer as soon as possible
- Ensuring any replacement system matches or exceeds your insurer’s requirements
- Speaking with your A-One Insurance Group adviser if you need guidance or clarification
